Berliner Dom

The Berliner Dom is the most important church in Berlin. It is located on Museuminsel on the Karl-Liebknecht-Straße in Berlin-mitte.
The original dom was constructed between 1747-1750 and part of this construction was the Hohenzollern familie crypt. One of the largest crypts in Europe. The house of Hohenzollern, used to be kings in the Brandenburg area, Prussia and the German Empire.

The current Dom was build between 1894 and 1905. Included in this build was again a chapel and crypt for the Hohenzollern familie.
During the 2nd World War the dom got severly damaged during a couple of allaid bombing raids.
After the war the Berliner Dom got only some minor temporary repairs to close the building for the natural elements.
The major repairs started only after 1975, strangely enough with the demolition of the Hohenzollern chapel, which survived the war undamaged.
And from 1993 the dom is used daily again.
