Het werd in 1938 opgericht door de San Francisco Down Town Association om de belangrijkste bezienswaardigheden en natuurlijke schoonheid van de stad te laten zien tijdens de in 1939 Golden Gate International Exposition .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oorspronkelijk beginnend bij van het stadhuis San Francisco en eindigend op Treasure Island , is de route sindsdien verschillende keren gewijzigd. <br>Tegenwoordig vormt de route een lus die tegen de klok in gaat vanaf Civic Center Plaza, en de lengte is dichter bij 48,8 mijl (78,5 km). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vanwege de lengte, de labyrintische route en de moeilijkheid om door een bruisende stad te rijden, blijft de rit relatief onpopulair bij zowel toeristen als de lokale bevolking. Toch is het zeker de moeite waard om in ieder geval een gedeelte te volgen van de route, langs b.v. de kust van b.v. de Embarcadero door China Town tot Pier 39 en Ghirardelli Square. Dat gedeelte is namelijk redelijk gemakkelijk lopend af te leggen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a
