Before the war the Potsdamer Platz was one of the biggest and busiest squares in Berlin.
During the war it was almost completely destroyed and shortly after this the wall was erected right across the former square.
Only after the wall came down in 1989, the Potsdamer Platz regained it’s former glory.
Right now it is one of the cities major traffic intersections, with many highrise buildings lining this sqaure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are a lot of things to see and to do around the square.
There is the famous Sony Center, which is the European headquarters of Sony. This building houses also some nightlife, a movietheater, some restaurants and a lot more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some small pieces of the former Berlin wall are located here. You can also find some information about this area here during the coldwar.
When you want to have an amazing view from the surrouding area you can go to the “Panoramapunkt<\/a>” at Potsdamer Platz 1.
At 100meters hight on the 24th floor of the Kollhoff Towers, you can have a great view of Potsdamer Platz, but also Brandenburger Tor, Tiergarten, the Reichstag and even the Ged\u00e4chtniskirche.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Very close to the Potsdamer Platz in the Erna-Berger-Stra\u00dfe, you can find an old GDR watchtower.
This is the only surviving tower of it’s kind and it used to stand close to the berlin wall between Brandenburger Tor and Leipziger Platz.
When the weather is good, you can climb up the tower en enjoy the view.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And on a short walking distance from Potsdamer Platz you can find some piece of history for the music lovers.
At the K\u00f6thener Stra\u00dfe No. 38 you will find the famous Hansa TonStudios<\/a>.
From the late 1970’s the famous Meistersaal<\/em> location was used by many recording artists like David Bowie, Iggy Pop, Depeche Mode and U2.
